The DEN value (denier) of tights determines their transparency, strength and comfort when worn. The lower the DEN number, the finer and more transparent the tights are. Higher DEN values mean thicker, more opaque and warmer tights.

What does DEN mean in tights?
The abbreviation DEN (denier) indicates the density and fineness of the fibre used to make tights. It expresses the weight of the yarn in grams per 1,000 metres. The lower the DEN number, the thinner and more transparent the tights are. Higher DEN values mean denser fabric, better coverage and higher durability.
Low DEN – light and sheer
Tights with 7–15 DEN are very thin and create a natural look on the legs. 20 DEN tights are a popular choice for events, parties, weddings or formal occasions where an elegant and subtle look is desired.
Medium DEN – the versatile classic
Tights with 30–40 DEN offer the perfect balance between coverage and elegance. They are ideal for spring and autumn and belong to the most popular everyday tights.
High DEN – warm and opaque
